About BR & ITR

Instructional Technology Research

My Background
An individual strongly suggested that I add a brief biography for a workshop several years ago. Frankly, I'd rather be working on a new project or writing about something other than my own ancient history. so don't expect frequent updates. There were always more important things to do. However, some of the professional highlights before retiring to scenic western Arkansas are listed below:

1998-2004 - Instructional Technology Research, Crawfordville, FL
After retiring from Polk County (FL) Schools at the end of 1997, I started Instructional Technology Research in 1998 as an independent consulting firm dealing with school technology issues. Projects during 2000-2004 included research, content development and technical support services for the Florida Learning Alliance and the Florida Center for Interactive Media at Tallahassee Community College. Florida Department of Education projects in 1998-2000 included interim project evaluations for TLCF grants, technical assistance to school districts and research on technology planning for Florida DOE's Office of Educational Technology.

1994-1997 - Director of Instructional Technology
1986-1993 - Supervisor of Instructional Computing, School Board of Polk County, Bartow, FL
Until initial retirement at the end of 1997, served as Director of Instructional Technology for Polk County Schools providing leadership for the district's instructional technology team of 43 very talented people involved in Instructional Computing, Instructional Television and Distance Learning. Developed Polk County's technology plan merging all district technological services into a single streamlined unit with the goal of improving service and accountability. Supervised Electronic Equipment Repair and Support (EERS) for 106 schools with over 75,000 students and 118 networked computer assisted instruction (CAI) labs. Other areas of responsibility included oversight of a $7.5 million budget, network infrastructure in new or renovated schools, installation and continuing support for individual local area networks and the district's wide area network. Training responsibilities included traditional help desk support as well as technology training for instructional and administrative staff.
